Meet Yara.

Yara is a Marketing Manager at Hive. As a strong generalist, she handles marketing BI topics, website building, and email marketing. While most of the marketing team sits in Hive’s HQ in Berlin, Yara is part of the central team but works from Hive’s Paris office.

Yara was the first hire to join the marketing lead in October 2021, working remotely from her hometown Beirut in Lebanon. In her nearly two years at Hive, she has had an exciting journey.

What made you join Hive?

Before I joined Hive, I was working in the startup arm of a traditional logistics company in Beirut and was looking for a new challenge. I read an EU startup listicle on the top 10 startups to watch and was intrigued to learn more about the listed companies. I saw Hive was hiring a BI and Marketing Analytics Intern and contacted the hiring manager directly.

I was hooked when I learned Hive had only started doing marketing a few months prior and that I would be the second hire in the team. As an engineer with a solid drive to build and optimize, the opportunity to set up processes from scratch excited me.

Meeting more team members and feeling their thirst to build something great made me realize that joining Hive would be the right career path for me.

How has your role developed since joining Hive?

It has developed quite a lot. I started as a Marketing Analytics Intern in 2021, working remotely from Beirut. Today, I own several marketing pillars and work from our Paris office.

As the second addition to the marketing team, I had the chance to wear several hats and get a sense of various aspects of marketing, gaining a solid understanding of all channels. Working closely with the business development and product teams gave me an overview of other exciting work streams, which helped me choose the direction I wanted to take for my career.

Having developed into a general Marketing Manager role over the last year, I am still working very hands-on. Currently, I am focusing on automating processes and optimizing our tracking and reporting.

What does a day in your life look like?

My day starts with a big cup of coffee an hour before I start working at the latest.

Our Paris office is the best place in summer, specifically with its terrace. However, I also enjoy the flexibility of being able to work from home.

At Hive, we start the day with a company-wide stand-up, where each workstream shares its progress, plans, and challenges. After that, I usually dedicate my mornings to focus time, crunching some numbers.

After lunch with my colleagues, I move on to meetings, aligning my work with other team members or work streams. I work closely with our revenue operations and business development teams.

After work, I usually catch up with friends or go to the gym.

What has been the biggest learning in your career?

The most significant learning is that you can do things you thought were out of your scope with the right motivation and dedication. Just one year ago, I would not have imagined I would own the processes that I own today.

What is your favorite Hive memory?

We have a tradition of giving Hive-branded vests as a token of appreciation.

In my first year at Hive I was working remotely from Beirut so only got to visit the Berlin office a couple of times. When I finally met up with the team in person and got my vest I was so proud of myself and how far I had come in that year.

Tell us about an upcoming project you are excited about

I am excited about a project working closely with the business development team, automating processes and communications.

One of the best parts about working in the wider growth team is getting to work with business development: understanding their market needs, and implementing new processes.
